How Nancy Wished That Everything Was an April Fool’s joke
By Rabih Mroué
Tokyo – Paris – Beirut. Mar, 2007
This play narrates chapters of the Lebanese wars - civil and otherwise - through the various battles undertaken by four fighters over the past years and ongoing.

The text claims the impossibility of setting down a single complete version of these wars of ours, the impossibility of establishing a single memory of them. However, it absolutely does not subscribe to the widespread claim that regards our wars as arbitrary and incomprehensible, and that as such any attempt to dig into their causes or sink into the folds of their details would be a futile exercise.
The text narrates the history of our long and various wars; however, it does not strive to provide an alternative history to add or compare to the other existing histories of these wars. On the contrary, our story strives to introduce gaps into these official versions, rather than fill their many gaps: Gaps that will act as a lighthearted ghost who appears while reading (or, in the case of a performance, watching) to instill doubt and skepticism, confusion and curiosity - and then disappears without a trace.
